"You do a range of projects -- it's never the same."
My work involves a variety of work, ranging from surveying, designing of local projects such as landfills and local roads and associating with Contractors on sewer/water mains. I am training with Watermark and Downer EDI Works towards my Diploma in Civil Engineering.
Skills
Skills required for my role are a willingness to learn new things as there are a range of jobs involved. You have to be keen to take on anything. You need a minimum NCEA Level 2 to study towards a Diploma in Engineering (Civil).
What I like about my job
What I like about my job is that it’s always different. You do a range of projects, it’s never the same and the pay is good.
Why I like working in local government
Providing services for the local community.
Why I like working at South Waikato District Council
Working with a great team of people who are fun to work with. There are a range of projects and improvements going on in the District all the time. And it’s a great place to be, central to Hamilton, Taupo and Tauranga for activities, such as the beach, ski fields and just going out.
